My name is Aisling McGinn. I am currently studying my MSc in Fashion Buying and Management in TU Dublin. In 2020, I graduated from (BA Honours) Fashion Design at Limerick School of Art and Design, Limerick Institute of Technology, Co. Limerick, Ireland with a First Class Honours degree.
During my time studying fashion design, the course allowed to push boundaries, experiment with creativity and drive innovation. I have a great understanding about design process in terms of inspiration, trend research, understanding the customer, developing sketches and understanding the brand DNA. I excel in hand drawing skills and technical drawing skills using Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign. I have an excellent knowledge in garment construction including pattern drafting, tech packs, technical drawings on Illustrator and Gerber technology. I have consistently demonstrated my ability to work in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines. The degree in Fashion Buying and Management has provided me with a greater understanding of the industry from a business perspective. My new found skills include analytics, finance and Excel, along with a deeper knowledge in areas such as luxury fashion and sustainability. I have taken a particular interest in sustainability and innovation. I have participated in a live industry project with Primark where I was shortlisted to present my idea to the company CEO and team. This project allowed me to show my ability to research, problem solve and create a new, innovative approach towards sustainability for the company. Through relevant professional experience in design intern roles, I learned how to present my ideas, communicate clearly and learn from constructive criticism. This allowed me to grow through other team members knowledge while confidently inputting my concepts, driving my influencing and negotiating skills. I am eager to continue developing my skills and gaining experience and contributing my skills to a team. Although production of manufacturing came to a stop for the construction of my final collection, I have had a lot of fun creating my portfolio from the resources I had from home (due to covid-19) and will continue to work on my final collection and upgrade my portfolio while finishing my Masters degree. |
